Varyag Memorial

While driving around in Scotland we kept seeing signs to a Varyag Memorial with Russian (saying presumably the same thing) underneath. After passing the signs many times we decided to go and take a look. The Varyag (кре́йсер “Варя́г”) was a Russian ship named after the Varangian Guard who went through some amazing times and eventually sank off the Ayrshire coast. The memorial is to remember the ship and the men who served on her. You can read a BBC article about the memorial here.

Manhattan Pictures

I’ve updated the images page to add a link to a Manhattan Slideshow. These are all from the winter of 2008. It was my second time visiting New York City and I spent most of the time in Brooklyn, which I vastly prefer to Manhattan. However you just can’t beat some of the architecture. Here are a few of my favourites.

Chicago Pictures

I’ve updated the images page to add a link to a Chicago slideshow. I went to Chicago in January 2009 and walked around the city with a broken toe. It was *very* cold. And so beautiful, I really want to go back again. The whole city is full of art and the buildings are some of the greatest I’ve seen. A wonderful place.
